I recently wrapped up a senior session that reminded me why communication is everything. Our journey started back in late July with the first part of a two-location session. We kicked things off with an in-person consultation, where we discussed logistics, what he was looking for, and how he wanted to showcase his instruments without having them outside.

During the consultation for the second location, he was honest: he didn't love the images from our first shoot. He thought they were a little 'plain' or 'basic'. Did that hurt my feelings? Absolutely not. My goal is for my clients to love their images, and honest feedback is the best way to make that happen.

Your voice matters in your session. Being upfront allows us to create images that are uniquely you.

We talked through what he truly wanted his photos to feel like when he looked back on them. The second session? It blew all of us away - in the best way possible.

Tips for Seniors

  1. Be honest with your photographer. If you don't love your images, say so.
  2. Think about the feeling you want. Years from now, what will you want to remember?
  3. Create a Pinterest board. Share mood, vibe, or aesthetic - not necessarily exact poses.
  4. Don't settle. Your session celebrates you - your story, your style, your passions.
