If we haven’t met yet...

Hi there, I'm Makita.

I’m a photographer who believes every story deserves to be seen, heard, and remembered.

One year ago, I felt a spark I couldn’t ignore - the pull to restart my photography business. It came at a turning point in my life, when I was rediscovering what purpose and faith really meant to me.

Not long after a hurricane hit North Carolina and the west coast of Florida, I remember watching families lose so much and thinking, I want to help people rebuild their memories. That desire - to use my camera as a way to serve, to restore what matters - is what started this whole journey.

Since then, it’s been a year of growth, grace, and gratitude.

Relearning What Matters

When I started, I thought success would mean gaining clients quickly or growing my name fast. What I didn’t expect was how much patience and humility this first year would require.

After nearly a decade away from photography while working in Human Resources, rebuilding my presence has been slow - but beautifully so. Every family who’s trusted me with their memories has reminded me why I do this.

Because this work has always been about more than just taking pictures. It’s about freezing a moment in time so you can look back years from now and feel it all over again - the laughter, the chaos, the love that fills the frame.

Lessons from Behind the Lens

This year taught me that children have their own ideas about photo sessions (and that candy is an essential part of my gear bag).

But it also taught me the value of slowing down - of creating space to connect before the session begins. I’ve learned that when families feel seen and heard, the photos reflect it. That’s when the real magic happens: not in the poses, but in the in-between moments - the glances, giggles, and quiet gestures that show who you really are.

Looking Ahead

As 2026 approaches, I’m filled with hope. Each year is a chance to grow - not just as a photographer, but as a person and a business. I’m always finding ways to make the experience easier and calmer for my clients, because pictures shouldn’t be stressful. They should feel like a breath - a pause in the noise to remember what matters.

I don’t take it lightly that people invite me into their lives to capture moments that can’t be redone. My goal for this next year is simple: to keep creating with intention, compassion, and heart.

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to pause and document your story, maybe this is it.

Every session begins with a simple conversation - space for you to share what matters most, and for me to listen. Together, we’ll create images that feel like you - full of life, love, and the little details that make your story one of a kind.

If that sounds like the experience you’ve been looking for,  let's start the conversation.
